A better look at the classic Vietnamese dish – Vietnamese Shaking Beef

The great thing about Vietnamese food is the fact that all bases are covered, so there is pretty much something for everybody. Whether you want a delicious and fragrant soup, a spicy curry, street food, or stir-fried Wok dishes, the Vietnamese food here in Chiswick, is simply divine. There are countless dishes considered to be staple parts of Vietnamese food, making it easy to find something popular and readily made that is going to be very enjoyable. There is one dish in particular that has been wowing people across the globe for many years now - and that dish is Vietnamese shaking beef.

Not sure what it is? Here is a better look at this delicious meal.

What is Vietnamese shaking beef? – Known traditionally as Thit Bo Luc Lac, shaking beef is dish that, if prepared right, is one which you will remember forever. Thit Bo means ‘Beef’ whereas the Luc Lac is a reference to how the wok has to be shaken so vigorously when this dish is being prepared. For those of you who enjoy Chinese food, shaking beef is guaranteed to be a real winner. As it is prepared in a wok, it is also a very fast dish, so there is no need to hang around if you find yourself feeling hungry. The dish is generally served with fresh salad staples such as sliced raw red onions, diced tomatoes, and water cress.

How is it prepared? – Generally, this dish uses top quality cuts of beef that are moist and tender, without the need to be slow cooked. Sirloin beef, fillet steak, and fillet mignon are commonly used, though there are others that also taste fantastic in this setup.

The beef is diced into small pieces, and is coated in a delicious marinade prior to cooking to ensure that the meat soaks up all of the wonderful flavours. The marinated meat is then quickly heated in a seasoned wok over a high flame, which quickly sears the beef and locks in those stunning tastes. To ensure the meat cooks evenly, the wok is then thoroughly shaken by our highly skilled and highly trained chefs. The beef is then finished off with a tangy vinegar-based dressing which also serves to dress the salad leaves and fresh salad ingredients. The beef is placed on top of the leaves and is now ready to be served.

How should it be enjoyed? – Shaking Beef can be enjoyed by itself as a delicious and healthy salad, but traditionally it is served with plenty of freshly prepared rice. Our rice is always prepared fresh to order, and is delightfully fluffy. This makes it the perfect accompaniment for our shaking beef dish. If you ever find yourself in the Chiswick area and fancy a change from your usual takeaway or restaurant food, make sure you give our shaking beef a try. You won’t regret it!
