Vietnamese food is all about balance: fragrance, taste and colour all combine to create a range of vibrant, authentic foods that offer something for all tastes. On the lunch and takeaway menu at Caphe Guests, you'll find two of the most traditional and well-loved dishes from the country: banh mi and steamed bao.
This fresh and healthy home-style cuisine can be ordered in a number of varieties, for both vegetarians and meat eaters alike.
Banh mi, or Vietnamese sandwiches, are a result of French colonialism in Vietnam, and they're a great option for those who want a lighter choice without rice or noodles for lunch. Our bread - soft subs rather than the traditional crispy baguettes as they're easier to eat, is packed full of Vietnamese flavours, such as pickled carrots and daikon, coriander and lettuce, and fillings include everything from lemongrass chicken, pork or tofu to the classic, which features spiced pork and Vietnamese sausages.
It's the perfect way to get a taste of the country in a healthy way, packed full of veg and greens. Priced at £5 each, they also include a free soft drink or bottle of still water at lunchtimes.
As an alternative, there's also our steamed bao, priced at £4 - it's a way to try out our traditional sandwich fillings without the usual bread. These fluffy steamed buns are filled with pickled daikon and carrots, fresh coriander and mayonnaise, along with a choice of various meats or tofu. Essentially, it's a sandwich without the bread, and almost looks like a hamburger in its shape.
Both options include vegetarian choices... and if you really want to enjoy summer in true Vietnamese style, add a Vietnamese iced coffee to your lunch or takeaway order for £2.95. These dark roast coffees are individually brewed and served in a cup containing sweetened condensed milk before being stirred and poured over ice. It's certainly a unique Vietnamese flavour, and one that's not to be missed - perfect for a hot summer's day!
